Underwriter – Greater New York Mutual Insurance Company (Predominantly Remote) Greater New York Mutual Insurance Company (GNY) is seeking an Underwriter to join its commercial lines team. This full‑time role is predominantly remote, with travel to the Edison, NJ office required for the first week of training and one week per quarter. Employer: Greater New York Mutual Insurance Company (GNY) Location: 333 Thornall Street, Edison, NJ 08837 (Predominantly Remote) Pay: $77,500–$160,700 per year (plus discretionary bonus eligibility) Job Type: Full‑Time Contract Type: Permanent Reports To: Regional Underwriting Manager Closing Date: Not specified (apply promptly) Position Summary The Underwriter develops and fosters positive, professional relationships with agency partners while achieving company growth and profitability objectives. The role requires technical expertise, sound judgment, and consistent results in underwriting commercial lines package and umbrella policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and maintain strong knowledge of underwriting guidelines, coverage forms, rating plans, and workflows Assess acceptability of commercial lines package and umbrella policies Use inspection reports, claims history, and applications to make underwriting decisions Determine appropriate premium levels and coverages based on filed rates and risk characteristics Maintain strong business relationships with assigned agencies, including travel and management responsibilities Meet or exceed company service standards for underwriting and processing applications, endorsements, renewals, and new business Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required Education and Experience Minimum 4 years of commercial multi‑line and/or package underwriting experience (workers’ compensation and casualty preferred) Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft 365 required Professional designation (CPCU, CIC, ARM, AU) completed or in progress preferred Experience with ImageRight preferred Skills Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Strong organizational and time management abilities Proficient negotiation and analytical skills Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision‑making aligned with company guidelines Compensation Salary range: $77,500–$160,700 per year (subject to performance, experience, skills, and business needs) Annual discretionary bonus eligibility Base pay is one component of GNY’s total compensation package Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with employer matching Paid time off Employee stock purchase plan Additional wellness and family support programs Application Process Applications must be submitted via the GNY careers portal.
