Job Description

Junior Salesforce Developer

New York Edge (NYE) is the largest provider of school-based afterschool and summer programming in New York City, serving thousands of students annually across all five boroughs and Long Island. Our mission is to help young people discover their potential by providing programs that support academic achievement, social-emotional development, and leadership growth. Through deep partnerships with schools, communities, and city agencies, we deliver high-quality experiences that address the needs of the whole child and build pathways to lifelong success.

NYE also serves as a leading Community-Based Organization (CBO) in the NYC Community Schools initiative, partnering with school leadership to coordinate integrated supports such as expanded learning, family engagement, and wellness services to ensure students and families have access to comprehensive school-based resources.

New York Edge is seeking a Junior Salesforce Developer to support the ongoing administration, development, and enhancement of our Salesforce platform. This role will work closely with internal stakeholders and the Salesforce Lead to maintain system integrity, implement new functionality, and support integrations across key business systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career Salesforce professional to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, mission-driven environment while contributing to impactful programs serving NYC youth. The role is designed for growth, with increasing technical responsibility over time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with day-to-day Salesforce administration, including user setup, profiles, roles, permission sets, and case management
  • Maintain data integrity through data imports, deduplication processes, and validation rules
  • Support the creation and maintenance of reports and dashboards for program, finance, and leadership teams
  • Troubleshoot user issues and provide timely and effective resolution
  • Support end-user training and adoption of Salesforce best practices
  • Build and maintain automation using Salesforce Flow (record-triggered, scheduled, and screen flows)
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Apex (triggers, classes, and asynchronous processes)
  • Support Lightning Web Component (LWC) development for internal tools and user interfaces
  • Participate in evaluating when to use declarative versus programmatic solutions
  • Support the development and maintenance of integrations using REST and SOAP APIs
  • Assist with outbound callouts, including authentication methods such as OAuth 2.0 and API keys
  • Parse and transform JSON/XML payloads within Apex
  • Work with middleware platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Zapier, or other ETL tools) as needed
  • Monitor and troubleshoot API limits, failures, and latency issues
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable Salesforce solutions
  • Assist in implementing new features, custom objects, and automation to improve operational efficiency
  • Participate in system upgrades, release cycles, and sandbox testing
  • Develop solutions with an understanding of Salesforce governor limits (SOQL, DML, CPU time, heap size)
  • Write efficient SOQL/SOSL queries and follow best practices to avoid common anti-patterns
  • Support optimization efforts, including query performance and transaction handling
  • Assist with implementing caching strategies where appropriate (Platform Cache, Custom Settings/Metadata)
  • Troubleshoot production issues using debug logs, Apex exception emails, and system monitoring tools
  • Identify root causes of failures across integrations, automation, and data processes
  • Provide Tier 2 support for Salesforce-related incidents
  • Proactively identify system health risks and improvement opportunities
  • Maintain technical documentation for data models, integrations, and automation logic
  • Follow established SDLC and change management processes
  • Contribute to internal best practices for naming conventions, code structure, and deployment procedures
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field.
  • 1–3 years of hands-on Salesforce experience in a production environment
  • Experience with:
    • Apex (triggers, classes, and basic asynchronous processing)
    • Lightning Web Components (LWC) (exposure or foundational experience acceptable)
    • SOQL / SOSL (including relationship queries)
    • Salesforce data model and schema design
Technical Knowledge
  • Understanding of Salesforce governor limits and bulkification principles
  • Familiarity with order of execution and transaction lifecycle
  • Foundational knowledge of integrations and APIs (REST/SOAP)
Certifications (Preferred)
  • Salesforce Administrator Certification
  • Salesforce Platform Developer I (preferred, not required)
Key Competencies
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn and grow
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations or Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP)
  • Familiarity with data tools such as Data Loader or ETL platforms
  • Exposure to form tools (e.g., FormAssembly)
  • Experience supporting financial or operational workflows (e.g., approvals, invoicing)
