Contracts Specialist

At Fairbanks Morse Defense, a leader in mission-critical power, propulsion, and naval solutions supporting the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and allied maritime forces, the Contracts Specialist plays a key role in managing and protecting the company's contractual and financial risk.

This role is responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of contracts, including government, commercial, and international agreements, while ensuring alignment with company standards and leadership direction. The Contracts Specialist will work closely with internal teams, customers, and external partners to support contract execution and mitigate risk.

Previous contract management experience is a hard requirement for this role.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and revise customer terms and conditions to align with Fairbanks Morse Defense's risk, liability, and business strategy while protecting legal interests
  • Support Business Unit teams in negotiating pricing, terms, and contractual conditions
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including teaming agreements, memorandums of understanding, and other agreements
  • Assist in preparing proposals for new business, change orders, and ongoing contract modifications
  • Provide guidance on customer-driven changes, disputes, and contract performance issues
  • Advise internal teams on U.S. Government and foreign acquisition regulations
  • Educate business unit leaders on contract compliance and risk management
  • Maintain accurate contract files and documentation within the company's systems
  • Collaborate with legal counsel, finance, and cross-functional teams as needed
  • Support reporting activities, including order tracking, EBIT, and cash flow projections

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in contracts, contract administration
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience with a Juris Doctor (JD) preferred
  • Prior contract experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of international procurement laws and regulations, including INCOTERMS and International Chamber of Commerce guidelines
  • Experience in international contracting preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus)

  • Certification from the National Contract Management Association (e.g., CPCM, CFCM, or equivalent)

This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN). To comply, candidates must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and attest that they do not hold dual citizenship. Acceptable documentation includes a U.S. passport, birth certificate, or naturalization certificate.
