We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Installer II to perform field installation, maintenance, testing, and service activities involving telecommunications equipment and infrastructure.
This is a mid-level field position suited for someone with at least three years of telecommunications installation or field service experience . The Installer II will independently complete standard installation assignments while working under supervision and receiving guidance on more complex projects.
The position requires extensive travel , including overnight assignments lasting one to two weeks.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow established safety procedures and properly use and maintain personal protective equipment.
- Install, terminate, label, lace, and test copper and fiber-optic cabling.
- Troubleshoot fiber and copper installations.
- Perform verification and continuity testing.
- Install and securely mount equipment racks, frames, shelves, and related hardware.
- Add or remove approved wiring, connections, and non-powered equipment.
- Install cables, grounding systems, power systems, and related telecommunications infrastructure.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, plans, specifications, job plans, and scopes of work.
- Perform retrofits and upgrades to existing telecommunications infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate and current installation documentation.
- Select appropriate media and discuss implementation considerations.
- Make recommendations based on applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Maintain accurate inventories of job-related materials.
- Complete work professionally while communicating effectively with customers, supervisors, and team members.
- Accurately record work hours using time-tracking software.
- Assist with training less-experienced installers when requested.
- Perform higher-level installation duties when directly supervised by qualified personnel.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least three years of telecommunications field service, installation, or closely related experience.
- Experience installing, terminating, testing, labeling, and troubleshooting copper and fiber-optic cabling.
- Experience mounting racks, frames, shelves, and telecommunications equipment.
- Experience with cable lacing, grounding systems, and power systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and installation documentation.
- Understanding of the phases of the telecommunications installation process.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Ability to work accurately and follow applicable quality standards.
- Familiarity with telecommunications installation standards, including AT&T TP-76300/76409, Telcordia GR-1275, or Verizon IP72202.
- Basic Installation training or equivalent on-the-job training.
- Ability to use computers, tablets, Microsoft Office, and time-tracking software.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, proof of insurance, reliable transportation, and the ability to transport minor job-related tools.
- Ability to travel 50%–75%, including overnight stays lasting one to two weeks.
- Availability for early-morning shifts, occasional evening shifts, and infrequent weekend work.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work on ladders and in confined spaces.
- Ability to work safely around electrical wiring and electrostatic discharge-sensitive equipment.
- Ability to work in central offices, construction environments, and installation sites.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, squat, crawl, push, pull, and lift.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills needed to use hand tools and assemble small components.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of electronics training from a technical trade school or the military.
- Experience working with multiple telecommunications network elements.
- Previous experience training or supporting less-experienced installers.
